Many of you who may be reading this know that I read a lot, and many of you may be my book-swapping buddies, so I thought I would have posts about what I'm reading and maybe what I am watching on TV.
I have just finished the last two books in the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" series. I read the first one years ago, the second one a few months ago, and decided to finish the series because it appears that the new movie that is just out actually isn't just the 2nd summer, but encompasses stories from the 3rd and 4th summers as well.
I am now reading a new book called "How to Be Single". Before you get ready to call for a straight jacket for me and think that I'm reading some crazy self help book about being single...stop... it is a novel. The author is Liz Tuccillo who was one of the writers on the Sex and the City writing staff. I'm about 200 pages in and it is a fun read. I think I will definitely be recommending it. I have found a favorite quote in this book that I have jokingly (maybe not so jokingly) said will be my mantra: "Whatever happened to the godd****ed idea that there was a lid for every pot!" Exactly I say!
As far as what I'm watching right now (well besides the usual summer stuff like "The Closer", "Project Runway", "Weeds", etc.)....
I have netflixed the HBO miniseries "John Adams". It is a 9 part series starring Paul Giamatti as John Adams and Laura Linney as Abigail Adams and I am 4 part into it. It is based on the book by David McCullough and I would highly recommend it. I may end up making my students watch some of the episodes...maybe episode two which shows the founding brothers hashing out the declaration of independence. I will say that episode one had a disturbing moment for me...someone getting tarred and feathered. Used the saying all my life, but never really thought about how that would be practically applied to someone...that is until I saw it on DVD!
P.S. the photo of Lola has nothing to do with this blog entry... completely gratuitous, but I figured I needed a photo of her in here since her name is on the title (and I can't take one right now because we are shaggy shaggy dog and have a grooming appointment tomorrow).
