Finally, Christmas!

A little late, but I guess better than never! Here are our Christmas photos...

Below is actually a photo of Christmas Eve. Lola keeping watch over the stockings.
It's finally Christmas morning! Lola waiting patiently to see what Santa brought her!
Lola and her Santa loot (unfortunately all of her favorite treats that Santa brought aren't on her new restrictive diet, so they were returned to Wal-Mart yesterday!)

Milly opening her stocking stuffers.

Milly and her new hedgehog toy.

Mom's side of the family came for lunch. Here is Lola and her great-grandma, Raenell.

My grandma Raenell and me--Stuffed from a great lunch (thanks mom!)
My grandma was getting a real treat from my grandfather... A surprise trip to Maui (her dream trip). To unveil the surprise, we bought her several things to take on the trip and wrapped them all separately (travel bags, hawaiian shirts, etc.) Here she was unwrapping the flip flops that we bought her. I'm sure she thought we had all lost our minds as she unwrapped present after present of random out of season gifts!
Here she is with the BIG UNVEIL! See her surprise and disbelief!
Still in disbelief with tears in her eyes. Everyone was choked up including my grandfather, who according to my 9 year old cousin Gracie, even had tears in his eyes (so Gracie gave him credit and shouted "You ROCK Papa!")

Below is my little cousin Maddie showing off her new Tech shirt. This girl has seen the light! She was a Texas fan (boo!) until a week before Christmas when she came home and announced, "I LOVE Texas Tech! That is where I'm going!" She instructed her Dad to throw away all her Longhorn gear and buy her a Tech shirt. Smart girl!

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
