Joining the 21st Century

This week I decided to join the 21st Century and get a new flat screen HDTV!

I've been in the market for one for over 2 years.  While I haven't had the benefit of a cool tv for that time period, the wait has allowed me to watch prices virtually plummet, comparatively speaking, and new things come onto the market.

I would like to claim that I rushed out and bought one before my version of the super bowl, The Oscars and the red carpet reports that go along with the show, but that wasn't the case.  Also, the once every decade or so, royal wedding is coming up, but that wasn't the reason either.  There were several factors that finally made now the right time, but the two biggies were that (1) I now have a tv stand that will support a new tv and (2) I saw a pretty good sale on them at Best Buy.

So I got a new 46 inch Samsung.  I picked it up on Tuesday, but had to wait for some assistance to move the old one, etc.  It's going now, I'm loving it.  I'm just so sad I have to go to a marathon night at school instead of watching my shows in HD!
Oh, and I also got two new pairs fo shoes today.  I had been wanting some new pewter shoes, so I got some of those.  I also had to replace my go-to black flats that I blew out on Tuesday night.
Oh, if you live the the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and know anyone who wants to buy my old tv for cheap, let me know!

So happy for your TV purchase!! Very exciting. Does it make me a dork that I'm so excited about the royal wedding that I can barely stand it? Can't Wait!!

Love your shoes too. Cute!

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
