Monday List

Nothing big, just a few things on my mind today...

(1) No, I didn't see any super bowl commercials.  I only saw: some of the game, Christina butcher the National Anthem, and the half time show.  I kind of don't "get" The Black Eyed Peas.  I like a few of their songs, but I'm just generally confused by their names and all the periods used in their names.  My favorite part of the show was the cameo by Slash.

(2) Speaking of the show...If you follow me on twitter, forgive the repeat story, but tonight I was talking to my grandmother on the phone and she says "I wasn't very impressed with the M&M's".  I say Who?, at which point I hear my grandfather say "They're Black Eyed Peas".  My grandmother then says "Well whatever, I wasn't impressed" and then added "well there is someone called an M&M".  I didn't explain any further.

(3) I'm sad that I forgot to let Lola watch some of the puppy bowl.  It's always her favorite.

(4) We're about to have another Winter Weather Event on Wednesday which totally sucks because (1) I don't have enough food on hand to be a shut-in for days again and (2) I have a hair appointment on Wednesday!  I guess tomorrow I will have to call and try to change my hair appointment (fingers crossed and prayers accepted here folks), and go to the grocery store.

(5) I love the genius button on my itunes.  Tonight, while coming to and from class, I listened to Guns 'n Roses, Warrant, Poison, Cinderella and Skid Row.  Hello...I'm in Junior High again!  Thank you genius, I love you!

(6) When you are 34 and do the splits on ice, your hip gets a little sore.

I lvoe your grandparents comments. Cute. I must disagree with ya for a moment though...Will.I.Am is fantastic! Ouch for Christina though.

Hate that a winter event may interfere with your hair appointment. And I'm really worried about the grocery store situation! Let us know.

And, when a 36 year old falls on the ice, her knee turns lovely shades of blue and green- and her face very red! Hypothetically speaking of course.

I love that your grandma knows their is someone called M&M (he was in a commerical!).

I loved the Darth Vader one, and I liked Audi add. I thought the others that people say are good were terrible!

Glee was the highlight of my night! Love them!

If 34 and 36 suck you should know that 35 isn't any picnic eithr. So get ready! Splits haven't been good for me in two decades!

You know I am praying for your hair, you can always order Pizza if the grocery store thing goes south for you!

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
