Happenings

I've had a pretty boring week.  Work-Got someone out of jail.  School-Gave a couple of lectures on Federalism, one on the Executive Branch & gave a couple of exams.  Exciting stuff, I tell you.  Our firm got randomly audited by the Texas Workforce Commission.  No many how many times they tell you it's only a random audit, you still panic a lot little.

The real highlight of my week is today's hair appointment.  I needed it.  BAD.  My hair was just plain awful people.  As much as I love the end result, I hate the 3 hour appointment.  If only they could figure out how I could nap during the process...

I had decided that I wanted to change up my color a little.  I was a little bored.  I found this pic on Pinterest a couple of weeks ago and pinned it...

So today, when my hair lady said, "What do you want?", instead of hemming and hawing, I busted out the pinterest app on my phone and showed her this photo.  Another reason to love pinterest!  Anyway, here was the result.
I don't think it's exactly Kate Hudson color, but I do love that she warmed it up.  For some reason, she didn't want to put low-lights in as dark as Kate's.  She kept saying "But your natural color IS dark blonde".  I think that translates to, But then you won't have to come as often and pay me as much

The only other thing worth noting this week is the fricking Missoni debacle at Target.  I was at Target at 8:15 and found nada.  I went to another one and found these shoes...

I actually located 2 size 10's.  One the heel was put on askew and had glue coming out.  The other had a flaw on the suede right on the top.  The stupid things were still $40 and appear to be crapola, so I skipped them.  Did any of y'all have luck with the Missoni for Tar-jay?

Oh, wow. Your hair looks GORGEOUS. I think I usually see it when you've had it curly, but the color and styling are fantastic in those pictures! Nice work, lady!

I didn't even try for the Missoni stuff. It's cute, but it looks really 70s, and I can never really pull off those colors and prints. Oh well. Sorry to hear that those shoes didn't work out - if I'd buy anything, I'd buy those!

i wasn't too interested in the missoni stuff, either. which i guess is fortunate, because i haven't heard of anyone having any luck getting any of it--except those crazy ebay people!!

Love your hair. You need to borrow emery and Brooks for a week and then you will love the three hour hair appointment for the quiet!

I'm sad your target experience was bad-I live vicariously through you during these events!

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
