Chihuly Nights

As you may recall, I went to see the Chihuly exhibit back in October.  I decided at the time that I really wanted to see it at night as well.  My uncle bought us tickets back in November to go and see it on December 177th.  A couple of days before, I texted him "What's the plan for Monday night (Chihuly)?"  I got back a "OMG!  I'm going to be out of town!".  But his wife and girls and I went anyway.

It was really neat to see these sculptures in a different light (literally).  We watched a few minutes of the video they were showing, and I found it amazing that he said that each individual piece of glass has to be sculpted and molded in 4 minutes.  I guess if it takes longer than that, then the glass gets too cold to work with.

Sorry for the picture overload!

This house is on the arboretum grounds (and obviously isn't an actual home anymore)
We went inside to see over 500 nativities on display
Adorable girls!
Here's a sampling of the nativities...

I couldn't resist taking a pic of the dog nativity.
Notice that the baby Jesus dog looks an awful lot like Lola!

Now for the Chihuly pieces...

It's funny because I really expected to be blown away by the exhibit at night.  Don't get me wrong, it was beautiful, but it was THAT much more amazing than in the day.  In fact, some pieces (the boats) were actually better in the day (in my opinion).  I would say that if I had to tell someone to go day or night, I probably would recommend the day.
I'm so happy the arboretum got this exhibit (and that it got extended for a couple of extra months so I could get back and see it after dark).  I would love for this to become a permanent exhibit at the arboretum.  It really adds something special!

As I said about your first Chihuly post--I LOVE Chihuly...there is just something magical about his work. I definitely can see what you mean about the day versus the night to view the pieces--i think the details and colors would be so much more vibrant in the natural light versus the lights put in at night. Happy Thursday. oxo
